As I was preparing for a recent dental visit it dawned on me the way I brush and floss before the visit is pretty much the same way I brush prior to judging. I’ve hit on the topic before, but it is worth mentioning again you need to start with a clean palate in order to best perceive the characteristics of what you are judging. Not much flavor is going to penetrate a coated tongue and if last night’s meatloaf is stuck between two of your teeth you might find the beer to have some interesting characteristics which were never present. So before judging clean those teeth and that tongue like you are going to the dentist and your palate will be prepared for the judging table.
