I plan to take this in the near future and will pen some thoughts on studying and strategy soon. My suggestion to anyone who is not a meadmaker would be to start the studying process early because there are quite a few things you need to know which are probably not ready to roll off the end of you pen. Cramming at the last minute is a bad idea. Not on the other hand the passing score for the exam is a 60. That is comprised of a composite score of 70% written and 30% taste. So let’s say you have judged meads before and feel comfortable and have a good tasting score already. You may make an 80 on the taste which would be 30% of the score. That means you need a 52 on the written in order to pass. While that may seem easy, once you delve into the material you will quickly realize even that 52 might take some prep.
